THE ART & SCIENCE OF LEADING SELF
The Power of Distinctions
My friend, we’ve been covering a lot of ground over the past few weeks.
We’ve been hammering the point that Mindset work is a function of Mindfulness aka M = f(m). Since many of the past issues have resonated strongly with you, I started to receive questions about recommended resources. So, this is what today’s issue is all about.
I’ve curated a list of several resources that I believe will deliver value for you regardless of where you are in your Mindfulness journey.
I know; we live in the age of listicles and endless lists of resources, so why not provide you with an overwhelming list of resources?
Well, I do not subscribe to the belief that volume equals quality. More is not always more. Therefore, I’m sharing 8 resources with you today.
As we continue to mine this topic through various lenses (mindset, neuroscience, driving results, courage, resilience, etc.), I will share more resources in the future.

2 Books Worth Your Time 📚
You Are Here: Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment by Thich Nhat Hanh
If you're looking to deepen your mindfulness practice or just starting out, I can't recommend this book enough. This gem of a book beautifully unpacks the core principles of mindfulness, offering practical guidance on how to cultivate present moment awareness in your daily life.
For beginners, Thich Nhat Hanh's gentle, accessible approach provides a solid foundation for understanding concepts like acceptance and non-judgment. For those with an established practice, his profound insights can help refine your awareness and deepen your connection to the present moment.
Real Happiness: A 28-Day Program to Realize the Power of Meditation by Sharon Salzberg
If you're ready to take your mindfulness journey to the next level, this book is a great companion. It is a practical guide that offers a structured approach to developing a meditation practice, making it ideal for those who prefer a clear roadmap.
Salzberg’s writing aligns beautifully with our ongoing discussions about cultivating mindfulness to enhance your Mindset, Courage, Resilience, and Innovation. For beginners, her 28-day program provides a concrete way to build consistency and overcome initial hurdles. If you're more experienced, her insights into different meditation techniques can help you refine your practice and explore new dimensions of awareness.
What I love about this book is how it bridges the gap between theory and practice – it's not just about understanding mindfulness, but actively integrating it into your daily life.
2 Great Experiential Resources 🌱
This course by Jon Kabat-Zinn is a game-changer for cultivating mindfulness and transforming your leadership. The 8-week program aligns well with concepts we have been exploring as we delve into the M = f(m) equation. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, MBSR provides invaluable tools to cultivate present moment awareness, master emotional self-regulation, and transform how you lead yourself and others. I included the link to the UMass program, but it is offered through universities and private companies all around the globe, so you can decide on whether an in-person or virtual option works best for you.
Want to support a young adult in starting their mindfulness journey? This course is a great option. This 4-week program offers practical tools that help participants cultivate present moment awareness and emotional self-regulation. It's an ideal foundation for beginners to build their mindfulness practice.
2 Podcasts Worth Checking Out 🎙
This podcast from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village is a treasure trove of mindfulness wisdom. Whether you're just starting out or deepening your practice, each episode offers practical insights that will spark reflection and enhance your ability to see how Mindfulness is the space in which all Mindset work occurs.
Dan Harris’ podcast offers a refreshingly down-to-earth approach to mindfulness, perfect for taming those mental roller coasters we've discussed. Dan and his expert guests deliver practical wisdom that'll ground your Mindset work, whether you're just starting out or looking to level up your practice.
2 Apps Worth Trying Out 📲
This app is a treasure trove of guided meditations and mindfulness tools that meet you wherever you are on your mindfulness journey. Using this app to track your practice helps you monitor your consistency.
If you are looking for guided meditations and courses that help you start, build, and deepen a mindfulness practice, you should definitely check out Ten Percent Happier. A lot of the content requires a premium subscription, but there is enough free content for you to still get decent value without entering the paid tier.
FROM INSIGHT TO ACTION
Putting It Into Practice
Like I said, less is often more if you want to actually translate insights into action.
I chose these resources as a way to offer you several entry points into Mindfulness wherever you are on your journey. You won’t develop leadership capacity by passively reading this newsletter every week. Knowledge is knowledge.
Your ability to apply intellectual knowledge into skillful action requires sustained practice.
I selected each resource because it requires you to start putting into practice what you are learning.
None of them leave you as passive spectators. So, pick one of the resources that I shared and get started today. Your action is a key brick 🧱 in the foundation we are laying.
Thank you for reading today’s email! 🙏🏽 Please take 2 sec to answer the 1-click poll below. 👇🏽 This helps me ensure the weekly topics deliver value.
